Swedish is perhaps the type of massage with which most people are familiar. It is meant for the client who is mostly looking for way to relax or just prefers a lighter touch.
Deep tissue is used on areas of the body that hold tension and therefore cause us discomfort or even pain. Through a firm touch, the therapist can work through areas of tension and soften the underlying tissue and muscle, enabling blood and oxygen to flow freely thereby relieving that tightness or pain.
Most people benefit from a combination of Swedish and deep tissue. A good therapist will want to relax the client while at the same time focusing on tense areas of the client's body.
